Fiona Denning recently opened her studio to the public for Coastal Currents, the popular Hastings area September Festival . She, and her fellow artists in the St Leonards studio house, were hosts over two weekends to over three hundred and fifty curious art visitors. Now she has a show at Hastings Arts Forum, HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see it.
An apparent change in the funding arrangements for completing Sea Change Sussex’s Queensway Gateway Road project has set alarm bells ringing at the South East Local Enterprise Partnership ahead of its accountability board meeting on Friday 23rd. A prospective date for completing the project remains unavailable. Nick Terdre reports.
Hastings is at risk of losing one of its historic buildings because people are unaware that its demolition is planned. St Anne’s in Chambers Road, Hollington, is a small church designed by a distinguished architect. Its fate is to be determined by Hastings Borough Council’s planning committee probably on 28 September 2022. As notification letters of the planning application are no longer sent by the council, local people are likely to be unaware of it. Richard Price reports.
Save Ecclesbourne Glen has won an important victory at the Information Tribunal in its long-running battle for the release of reports which could throw light on the connection between unauthorised works in Rocklands Caravan Park and the landslip which occurred in the area of Ecclesbourne Glen immediately below the caravan site. As a recent arrival to St Leonard’s on Sea, Dan Percy writes about his highlights of this year’s Coastal Currents artists’ Open Studios. Alongside a range of events and exhibitions, the Open Studios are an opportunity to see local artists and makers in their place of work. This year seems a particularly vibrant Festival with over 60 open studios, particularly after the more subdued event in 2021.
The Seafood and Wine Festival, one of Hastings’ flagship events, takes place this weekend, 17 and 18 September. There is the usual wide diversity of food and drink offerings and a full musical programme, not to mention the traditional jazz breakfast on Sunday morning. Nick Terdre reports. The first neighbourhood plan in Hastings borough is coming together with the organising body, the West St Leonards Forum, preparing to submit a proposal for its designated area to the council and hoping to have its plan put out to referendum next year. Nick Terdre reports.
