Protest rally against North Queensway plans

Seachangewatch plans to hold an in-situ rally to protest against the development plans for Sea Change Sussex’s North Queensway Innovation Park next Sunday. Meanwhile the sustainability statement in support of the application has come in for heavy criticism from community energy consultant Energise Sussex Coast. Nick Terdre reports.

Southern Water progresses Bulverhythe sewage leak repair

Work to fix the sewage leak behind Bulverhythe beach progressed over the weekend, while warnings were issued against swimming in the sea from local beaches. Meanwhile Southern Water says it will make good the damage caused to beach huts in the area of the leak. Nick Terdre reports.

Launch of Church Wood Community Orchard

Fully supported by Hastings Borough Council, Brighton Permaculture Trust, The Conservation Volunteers and friends, the Church Wood Community Orchard is an initiative from a new community group, whose members have planted an apple orchard in the grass area in Church Wood, a local Nature Reserve in Hollington. The group are celebrating the launch of the orchard on Saturday 7 August between 11am – 3pm. You are invited!

PhotoHastings welcomes two new photographers to the summer show

PhotoHastings summer exhibition at Stade Hall includes an astounding selection of images from 16 photographers. This year, the group has welcomed two new photographers working with a mentor. HOT’s Erica Smith was delighted to meet these budding photographers.

Rosamond’s Appalachian adventure

Self-declared pensioner Rosamond Palmer has proven without a doubt that age is no boundary when we really want to do something, even something that is very, very challenging: like a 1,000 mile walk along the Appalachian Trail. An inspirational human being! HOT’s Zelly Restorick talked to Rosamond about her adventure and the creativity the journey catalysed.
