Read Your Way competition winners

The “Read Your Way” campaign launched a photography competition in June that asked parents to send in pictures of their children reading some of their favourite books; and they have announced the three winners, writes Vanessa Alves.

26,000 books are coming to town!

Bloomsbury Publishing and the National Literacy Trust Hub in Hastings are gifting more than 26,000 brand new books to children and adults across Hastings and St Leonards, writes Vanessa Alves.

“Lack of vision” in HBC’s climate change strategy

Hastings Borough Council says it is taking steps to implement its climate change strategy, including establishing an internal board, and calls on residents to play their part. Its actions have drawn scepticism and criticism from some quarters, including the claim that its plan lacks vision and ambition. Nick Terdre reports.

Today, Wednesday 15 July, Hastings Borough Councillor Ruby Cox will receive an award from the Nicaraguan Embassy in an online ceremomy. The award is to mark her long-standing work building solidarity between the Trade Union movements in the UK and Nicaragua. Below she tells us about the award and her bond with the Nicaraguan people.

‘GONE’: arrived, and left, the Pier

On Saturday 11 July, Extinction Rebellion Hastings and St Leonards (XRHSL) temporarily installed 1,200 pairs of children’s shoes on Hastings Pier, in a performance installation entitled GONE. Erica Smith went to witness the fleeting installation.
