New job centre for Rye under study, says DWP

Labour’s campaign to get a job centre reopened in Rye has gained a lot of local support though it has yet to persuade the authorities, though the DWP confirms that studies are under way. Nick Terdre reports.

£400,000 share offer is now open. Energise South Society is a community benefit society that intends to install solar PV on schools and community buildings in the Hastings area, raising the funds needed through a public share offer. Tracey Heaword writes.

London Mozart Players replace Poole as Opus’ resident artist

Opus Theatre has a new residency – the London Mozart Players. They will take over from the present incumbent, pianist Oliver Poole. He gave his last concert in the inaugural World Series featuring leading international musicians last Saturday, 5 October, accompanying soprano Tamara Radjenovic in an evening of operatic and Balkan songs. HOT’s music correspondent Brian Hick was there for the occasion.

New jass quartet: Quad Squad

This Sunday, 13 October, a new quartet ‘Quad Squad’ will be playing jazz from 2.30 to 5pm in Teddy’s Beach Diner at Azur Marina Pavilion. The gig marks the start of saxophonist Lynda Murray’s residency at the Azur.

Silas Marner at White Rock Theatre

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of George Eliot, a stage play of her novel Silas Marner is being brought to the White Rock Theatre by Conn Artists on Saturday 12 October. Nick Terdre reports.

Council’s carbon reduction pledge put to vote

East Sussex County Council reports that councillors are being asked to declare a ‘climate emergency’ and back a pledge to achieve carbon neutral status by 2050 at the latest. Council members are recommended to back a cross-party motion committing it to formulating an action plan to meet the target by reducing emissions from the council’s operations.
