Protest against post office closure this Saturday

Opponents of Post Office Ltd moves to close down Hastings post office and relocate its services to WH Smith in the Priory Meadow shopping centre will be gathering outside the retailer to protest against the plan this Saturday. Nick Terdre reports.

Basil Beattie stepping up

Peeking through the Jerwood Gallery windows it is intriguing to see Basil Beattie’s large canvases of staircases and steps, block upon block, going up or down. HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to take a closer look at his new show, Promises Promises.

Faces of the sea

One of the main Hastings attractions is The Stade, the beach, the boats and, most importantly, the fishermen. And hearing there is an exhibition of fishermen – Generations – by local photographer John Cole, HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talked to John about his on-going, 20-year project  photographing these tough, brave men.

Future of St Leonards on the line

Overlooking Warrior Square Station are two Victorian villas, 1 and 3 Chapel Park Road.  The planning application to replace them with a block of 29 flats will be considered by the planning committee this coming Wednesday, 6 November, at a meeting in Hastings Town Hall starting at 6pm. Local resident Bernard McGinley considers the implications for St Leonards.

Moment of truth for Archery Ground scheme

Gladedale’s new application to redevelop the Archery Ground in St Leonards comes before the planning committee on Wednesday 6 November, this time with the backing of the Save The Archery Ground group. If it is approved, as seems likely, work on the site is expected to start early next year. Nick Terdre reports.

The PhotoHub group was set up in 2009 by Grace Lau and Andrew Moran to bring together the many talented photographers that live in Hastings and St Leonards. The group now has an exhibition at the Hastings Arts Forum. HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to take a look.
