Lockdown stories in photographs

What did you do during lockdown? It meant different things to different people: to some it was a welcome hiatus; to others a sort of imprisonment; lonely; stuck; lack of concentration; walks; gardening; reading; jigsaws; boxed TV sets; cooking and baking. Some enjoyed it, others hated it. And lots thanked the weather gods for the fine weather. To HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths a black cloud settled, resulting in a sort of torpor with the occasional action spike. But I did take photographs, as did other members of Photo Hastings – and here I have to declare an interest – as being part of an exhibition We Baked All Our Own Bread: one mischief always leads to another.

I Am A Norman – photographic project

In September and October the Root 1066 International Festival will take place in Hastings, St Leonards and surrounding areas. Hastings Borough Council will be staging a contemporary, multi-art-form festival, celebrating 950 years since the battle took place. There will be a curated programme and a number of projects engaging local people. Erica Smith reports on a photographic project which is already under way.

A photographic sense of place

It is certainly to be welcomed that there is a new gallery space in Hastings – at the former Observer building. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went there, with great anticipation, to see the PhotoHastings exhibition Pinups: A Sense of Place.

The PhotoHub group was set up in 2009 by Grace Lau and Andrew Moran to bring together the many talented photographers that live in Hastings and St Leonards. The group now has an exhibition at the Hastings Arts Forum. HOT reporter Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to take a look.
