The Big Draw: “Everyone Can Draw!”

Hastings Arts Forum is once again the local host for The Big Draw on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October, from 10am to 4pm…and it’s FREE!, writes HOT reporter John Cole.

Come and experiment with a variety of exciting projects at Hastings Arts Forum next weekend. It really is open to a wide range of interpretations; there are no rules and no artistic requirements. In fact, the only requirement is to HAVE FUN!

A chance for children and their families to come along and DRAW. It’s for children of All Ages —  along with anyone whose Inner Child is yearning to draw!

All art materials will be provided FREE on the day. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and desire to have fun. There are several nearby local shops where you can buy refreshments and food. Or bring a packed lunch.

We will require you to bring your own masks when working in the gallery and social distancing will be observed where possible. Some time slots may need to be implemented depending on demand, but there will be a range of activities, both inside and out — so bring appropriate clothing!

The Big Draw, initiated in 2000 by Quentin Blake, has become the biggest festival of drawing in the world. The festival is for families of any shape or size: children, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles – really anyone who wants to be involved in a fabulously fun day of drawing, painting and generally making a mess. Everyone is invited, whether you’re a Hastings Arts Forum member or not. And it’s FREE!

The unmistakable hand of Quentin Blake.

This year’s Big Draw theme is Make the Change, which is all about sustainable and successful living, how we interact with the world around us; it’s about kindness shown to nature and our natural world, but also kindness shown to each other.

Professional artists with Big Draw experience will be on hand to encourage, help and inspire you throughout the day, as well as assisting you to create your own original artwork, which will be displayed in Hastings Arts Forum’s gallery for a week.

Where: Hastings Arts Forum, 20 Marine Court, St Leonards-on-Sea TN38 0DX (opposite Azur).

When: Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October, 10am-4pm.
