Hastings Greenway Group

The Hastings Greenway Project is an innovative network of linked almost traffic-free routes, that everyone can enjoy for leisure, amenity and utility walking, as well as cycling. Starting at Hastings Town Centre the Greenway will run 10 miles to Ore, Silverhill, Hollington & Mayfield and the Conquest Hospital. Here’re some up-coming events where the group will have a presence:

Unknown-122 September 12-6pm, Hastings Seafront: Car Free Day Street Party

There will be a programme of activities centred around sustainable transport and bringing the community together to reclaim the seafront road for the afternoon.
Bike rides, games, music, plants, decorations, children’s parade and much more! (See separate HOT article on Car Free Day.)

15 October Climate Change Motion ESCC – Lewes Town Hall
A petition has been launched calling on East Sussex County Council to follow the lead of Hastings, Eastbourne and Lewes Councils and declare a climate emergency and develop a plan within 6 months to achieve carbon     neutrality by 2030. The wording of the petition also asks the council to revise the transport strategy to reduce car use and put walking, cycling and sustainable transport at the centre of future plans for the county. You can read the whole letter/petition and sign it here.

The petition will be handed in at the next full council meeting at 10.00 am on 15 October at County Hall, St Margarets Road, Lewes. We want as big a crowd as possible at the meeting to show how important the people of   East Sussex consider this issue. There is also an opportunity to ask a climate change related question but you need to commit to being present on the day.

If you would like to ask a question and are happy for Hastings Greenway Group to draft it on your behalf, please email info@hastingsgreenway.org before 1 October.
