Back in September 2007, local cyclists rallied to show the demand for a seafront cyclepath.
Work starts on Hastings-Bexhill seafront cycle/walkway
At last the long awaited start of the Bulverhythe Link is to begin! For those of you that don’t know it by this name, it is the link up between the end of the cycle lane by the beach huts and the start of the bike track up
and over Galley Hill to Bexhill.
The appointed contractors, Jacksons, will be starting on site on Monday 5 September. The total programme will be 16 weeks long and the first week is likely to be the most intense with 1,200 tons of material being moved along the existing beach road.
If all goes according to plan, and taking into account Christmas, weather and the usual unforeseen circumstances, it should be completed early in the New Year. Hastings Urban Bikes is planning a great celebration when it is finished.
This cycle/walkway has been planned since 2007. It will be a boon for cyclists commuting between the two towns, but also for leisure cyclists, pedestrians, families with pushchairs and wheelchair users. Hastings Urban Bikes have worked with Sustrans and Connect2 and East Sussex County Council to make this strategic link a reality.
