Women’s Voice talks climate change
Hastings’ women’s group, Women’s Voice, holds its AGM this Thursday, 6 February. The AGM will be followed by an event led by Women’s Environmental Network. Chiara Capraro from Women’s Voice highlights why climate change is a feminist issue.
The impact of climate change is already here with us. Not only globally, but in the form of flooding in Hastings town centre and erratic weather and storms across the UK. We need to systematically change our relationship with the planet before it’s too late.
Women’s Voice is delighted to be hosting the Women’s Environmental Network to think about what systemic change can look like, from a feminist perspective. We will learn about WEN’s ‘Feminist Green New Deal’: a bold vision for tackling the climate crisis which addresses systemic inequalities. It centres the voices of women, particularly those from marginalised and racialised communities, in shaping a green, caring economy that works for people and the planet.
Join us for an inspiring evening as we dive into the Feminist Green New Deal with guest speaker Roshini Thamotheram from the Women’s Environmental Network. There will be plenty of time to discuss issues in our town, how a Feminist Green New Deal would look like in Hastings and what each of us can do to make change happen. The event will include interactive discussions about building a greener, fairer future for us all.
Nourish body and mind!
The event is at Stade Hall and begins at 7pm following the Women’s Voice AGM at 5.30pm. The entry fee includes a bowl of homemade plant based soup provided by Goat Ledge which will be served at 6.30pm. You are encouraged to bring your own mug and spoon to cut down on the use of single-use plastics and cardboard. Don’t miss this chance to nourish both mind and body!
In order to make this event accessible to all there is a sliding scale for tickets, starting at £4 (including soup). Any profits from the night will go back to both charities, supporting further campaigning and events.
One of a series of thought-provoking events
This event is one of a series of ‘Women’s Voices’ events which has included spoken word nights and a discussion about why Palestine is a feminist issue. Women’s Voice is committed to continue to offer spaces to the public to explore the most pressing issues of our time with an intersectional feminist approach.
The next event, Hear Me Roar! is our annual festival on International Women’s Day. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 8 March at Hastings Observer Building between 11am and 5pm.
The Women’s Voice AGM is held on Thursday 6 February at 5.30–6.30pm and all women living in Hastings and St Leonards are welcome to attend.
Why Climate Change is a Feminist Issue is open to everyone and starts at 6.30pm with a bowl of soup – the formal event will begin at 7pm.
