Paddle-out protest against sewage in the sea

Surfers Against Sewage are ocean activists, campaigning for a thriving ocean. Last Saturday the group led a paddle-out protest to raise awareness and send a strong message that we care about the cleanliness of our seas.

Jemima Gibbons, protest lead for Hastings said, ‘I live in London but come to Hastings a lot to visit friends who’ve moved down here. My friends told me about the raw sewage in the sea and how they often couldn’t swim because of sewage alerts. This is a tragedy on so many levels! I grew up swimming in the sea and local rivers.

“The fact that this right is being taken away from us by the very companies that are meant to provide us with clean water is ironic, let alone the damage that is being done to wildlife, marine life and the environment. That’s ecocide.’
