Art sale for Gaza this weekend
This weekend Hastings Palestine Solidarity Campaign has organised a sale of art to raise funds for medical aid in Gaza, as Rachel Lever explains on behalf of the group.
In January 2009 Hastings held a packed art auction for medical aid to a stricken people: members generously donated, and competed to spend the most on buying each other’s work.
But this was no natural disaster. The Israeli armed forces had descended on the tiny, densely populated Gaza strip, leaving death and destruction. Over 400 children perished; many more were blinded or maimed for life.
Now it’s all happening again.
Life-saving medical work was stretched enough from years of siege. Now they are overwhelmed by thousands more injured. Gaza’s hospitals and ambulances are bombed even as they fight to save lives.
On Sunday 3 August, from 4pm at White Rock Hotel, Hastings artists will once again raise funds for Gaza, donating valuable work to be sold at a fixed price of just £50, with smaller pieces for less. Exceptional pieces are open to bids.
HOT readers have a great chance to bag a bargain while helping Gaza’s medical services as they struggle to keep working in impossible conditions. All proceeds will go to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Please bring art donations to the White Rock Hotel on the day, between 11am and 2pm, or better still contact Rachel on 07446 050440 (rachel.lever@sky.com) in advance so we can collect.
