Free recycling for your old Christmas tree
When your Christmas tree has shed all its needles onto your thick-pile carpet and it’s time to get rid of it, don’t dump it in the garden or at the side of the road or even take it to the town dump, where it will only end up in landfill. Take advantage of the council’s free recycling offer.
For the first two weeks of 2018, Hastings Borough Council will be providing a free recycling service for Christmas trees.
You can leave your tree at the collection point in Harmers Lane, just off Upper Park Road in Alexandra Park, between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30 pm up to Sunday 14 January.
“Lots of trees get dumped around town at this time of year, or end up in landfill,” said Cllr Colin Fitzgerald, lead member for the environment. “We encourage everyone to use this free recycling service instead, which turns your tree into healthy, compostable material that can be used in the park, and keeps our town tidy too.”
