The Big Lunch : An Eden Project initiative
The Big Lunch 2018!
The Big Lunch is an event introduced by The Eden Project in 2009 and takes place nationwide, designed to improve the happiness and wellbeing of people all over the UK by helping to build more resilient and better connected communities. This chimes exactly with the goals of Transition Town Hastings (TTH), who invite you to join them for their Big Lunch in Hastings on 3 June. Zelly Restorick writes.
The Big Lunch initiative involves neighbours, families and friends getting together and sharing food, connecting with new people or re-connecting with those you know – and enjoying some time outside in the fresh air. In 2017, nationwide, 9.3 million people took to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods to join in for a few hours of community, friendship and fun.
“If you came along to the Hastings Big Lunch last year,” says TTH’s Karen Simnett, “you’ll remember there was a feast of delicious food brought along by people who attended and we even enjoyed a game of community rounders. Weather permitting – we’ll be dusting off the rounders bat once again!”
“Although we are preparing our sun dance for the day,” adds Karen, “if it’s looking like it could be a wet day, we’ll have a Plan B prepared!”
The Big Lunch on Sunday 3 June at Warrior Square Gardens 12-3pm. Bring food, drink and your family, friends and neighbours! Please check the Facebook event page ‘The Big Lunch’ or the Transition Town Hastings website for updates. If you have any questions or would like to help out on the day, please send TTH an email at info@transitiontownhastings.org.uk.
