Hastings Sinfonia presents its Christmas Spectacular at De La Warr Pavilion

Hastings Sinfonia takes to the De La Warr Pavilion on Saturday 29 November to present its Christmas Spectacular – music, song and dance also featuring the singers of St Richard’s Catholic College choir and dancers of East Sussex School of Performing Arts. Alexandra Hudson sets the scene.

Expect traditional, much-loved favourites like Sleigh Ride by Leroy AndersonProkofiev’s atmospheric Troika and Strauss’ Tales from the Vienna Woods, while music from the film Elf and the rousing Wallace and Gromit theme will raise a smile.

The talented youngsters of St Richard’s Catholic College will perform Schubert’s Holy, Holy, Holy and an incredible rendition of O Come, O Come Emmanuel. East Sussex School of Performing Arts will treat you to a stunning performance of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from the Nutcracker Suite.

Hastings Sinfonia is a vibrant orchestra formed by local professional and talented musicians. Founded in 2012 by Anglo-Argentine composer Polo Piatti, the orchestra performs popular shorter classical works and new melodic works by living composers.

We look forward to performing Cantilena and Sicilian Waltz, from Polo Piatti’s Old World Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, which reflects his gift for melodic storytelling. Our soloist is accomplished young cellist Rupert Sheppard, a student at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

We are also very proud to bring you the newly-written work The Countess’ Winter Ball by young composer and strings player Cai Ashara. And of course there will be carols aplenty!

Conducting is the inimitable Derek Carden, whose warmth and asides to the audience make for an engaging concert experience. The leader is Liz Norton.

After a series of memorable, sell-out concerts at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion we look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 29 November at 3pm.
