Some like it hot

For those who like it hot and while the sun is still but a distant memory, there are few foodie options around more appealing than a Mexican. Rock Astrologer Enid Williams hits the town to feel the heat.

Many eating establishments have come and gone over the last few years, but of those on offer you’ll be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable culinary experience than this duo of recent arrivals.

First up is Diegos located in a prime spot down on the seafront and opposite the pier. With the welcoming and helpful service and enough room for a party this cool joint is well worth a visit.  The menu choices offer up a taste of California meets Mexican classics, a range of burritos and burgers in true San Diego fusion style alongside a choice of desserts.  The freshly prepared dishes cover veggie options and wheat free tortillas and for those on a limited budget, half priced tacos on a Wednesday from 5 to 8 whilst weekend lunches include 2 for 1 Prosecco. To quote manager Nicola, “cafe by day, edgy at night”.  With her Capricornian business nous, here’s an establishment that’s unlikely to be going anywhere soon.

The other great find is Xochipilli, a cosy little place offering great value and authentic “fresh Mexican street food”. Whether you’re looking for a quick lunchtime taco snack or the full works, burritos, gluten free quesadillas with a choice of 5 (2 vegan) fillings, this place ticks all the right boxes. The delicious homemade salsas range from mild pick to crazy hot. Overseen by boss Justin ( a hot, fiery Aries appropriately), a trip to this friendly and characterful abode makes for a relaxed and tasty culinary experience. Starting in April, head to Taco Tuesday’s for the free drink with 3 of the aforementioned and look out for pop up Sundays veggie/vegan gourmet feast. After all, where else can one buy vegan, organic wine in a restaurant for £12 a bottle surrounded by knitted penile cactii flowerpots?!
