Wanted: singers for world premiere of Piatti’s multi-faith oratorio
With the world premiere of his multi-faith oratorio Libera Nos approaching in November, composer Polo Piatti is looking for 20 additional singers to take part. Nick Terdre reports.
Twenty singers are sought to form a choir which will perform the world premiere of local composer Polo Piatti’s multi-faith oratorio Libera Nos together with the London Mozart Players, members of the London Euphony Choir, Hastings Sinfonia, five soloists and the St Richard’s Catholic College Choir.
The performance, to be conducted by Piatti’s long-time collaborator Derek Carden, is scheduled for the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sunday 20 November.
The 20 additional voices need to be committed and skilful singers and good music readers, Piatti says. They will be required to attend several rehearsals starting in October which he himself will conduct.
Monumental work
Libera Nos is the world’s first ever multi-faith oratorio, the composer says. Commissioned by the Musica Sacra organisation in Hastings, it is a monumental work that took over three years to be researched and written.
The oratorio is based on the musical traditions and narrations of the five largest world religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
“The oratorio’s main objective is to convey a simple message: as long as people remain segregated from each other, the world will continue to be an unjust and unhappy place,” Piatti says. “Only by looking for common ground and universal similarities will we be able to find understanding and contribute to a better life for all of us on this planet.”
Singers interested in being part of this special project should get in touch at londonmusic@mac.com.
