Some of the 16-musician strong Big Band

‘All That Jazz’ in Robertson Street

Strollers in Robertson Street on Sunday afternoon (3 September) were treated to a pavement concert by the Big Band: a 16-piece ensemble, tight and smooth.  The venue was Barnaby’s (Le Petit Balcon). Bernard McGinley was charmed by the band.

It was a curtain-raiser for the Coastal Currents festival (which has no public funding this year). Work in a broad range of media, including painting, collage, ceramics and ‘poetry readymades’ is on show in the venue. The artists explore jazz in its many forms.  If the visual art is as good as the sonic art, it’ll be worth a visit.

The Open Studios weekends continue on 9 & 10 September, from Bexhill to Rye but mainly in St Leonards and Hastings. You can check out the complete programme of events and exhibitions on the Coastal Currents website
