Exploring Monteverdi
Barefoot Opera continues to explore new ways of hearing and seeing music with a visual narrative of desire from Monteverdi’s beautiful sensual part songs. In collaboration with Cantemus, a chamber choir specialising in newly discovered and rarely heard music from the Renaissance and Baroque period, this unique event celebrates the 450th anniversary of the birth of Monteverdi.
During the first half, directed by Christopher Arnold, Cantemus recreate the music that might have been played at Monteverdi’s baptism in Cremona. In the second half, directed by Jenny Miller, six exquisite Monteverdi madrigals are dramatised by Barefoot Opera soloists – Laurence Painter, Aino Konkka, Lucy Ashton, Shaun Holley, Anna Graebe and Tim Patrick. Music includes Monteverdi, Ingenieri and Josquin.
Saturday 17th June at 7.30pm at St John the Evangelist Church, Brittany Road, St. Leonards-on-sea, TN38 ORD
Tickets: £15 in advance here.
