Inside the Electric Palace Cinema - Old Town High Street.

New at the Electric Palace

In the run-up to Christmas, the Electric Palace cinema is embarking on some interesting new initiatives, which encourage more audience participation and showcase some important creative people who come from Hastings. HOT’s Chris Cormack looks into this and explains further.

The Great Gatsby.

After it became clear that there was demand for a regular book and film club, it was decided to launch this  ‘Book to Film Club’  with ‘The Great Gatsby’ on Thursday 12 December. This will be followed by regular screenings chaired and hosted by writer and lecturer Shannon Smith, one of the Electric Palace’s brilliant volunteers. Screenings will start at 8pm, and will be followed by a discussion (either at the cinema or a local pub) of the book and its film adaptation.

A Book to Film Club membership offer will be available soon but you are already invited to send in your ideas and general suggestions as part of this event as well as your suggestions for films to show as part of the club  so do contactthe cinema with your ideas. Please note, you can still see the billed screening as usual even if you don’t want to take part in the club.

This launch Book to Film Club screening and discussion is sponsored by Hastings Voluntary Action.

Fancy dress at the Palace

The Mysterians.

There are prizes to be won at two special fancy dress screenings before Christmas.
In acknowledgement of the many Hastonians who love a chance to get magnificently dressed up, the cinema decided to host some special nights for this occasion. Use all your imagination and have the chance of winning two free cinema tickets for best outfit at:

  • The Great Gatsby on Saturday 14 December, (Glitter and Glamour at the Palace) and
  • The Mysterians on the 18 December (Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a giant monster, aliens and flying saucers!).

If you don’t want to dress up, you are still welcome to join the fun as valued admirers!  Get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

Looking for Christmas gift ideas?  Gift vouchers are available to buy at the Electric Palace Christmas week screenings, so you can grab a last-minute stocking filler or two to go towards Electric Palace film screenings next year.

Showcase for Hastings greats

On Sunday 15 December at 8pm, local filmmaker Mark French presents his trilogy of films about Hastings art and music legends Laetitia Yhap, Roland Jarvis and Trevor Watts. Made over the past five years, these three films explore the process of creation through individual profiles of these enigmatic masters of their art. Followed by Q&A with the artists and director.
