Mark Thomas and friends support HFS
Stand-up comedian, political activist and journalist, Mark Thomas is the patron of local furniture charity, Hastings and Other Furniture Service (HFS). On 25 May, he’ll be appearing at The De La War Pavilion alongside a number of fellow comedians – Daniel Kitson, Bridget Christie, Robin Ince, Shazia Mirza, Jonny & the Baptists and Tiernan Douieb – in a comedy benefit gig.
Mark Thomas has supported Hasting Furniture Service for over 10 years. He says he loves the furniture service because it makes such a practical difference for people: “Community self-help projects like HFS change the world, one chair at a time”.
HFS is a local charity that collects and reuses furniture and electricals to help people furnish and equip their homes affordably; provides training courses and volunteering experience to help people develop skills and confidence; and works with a range of schemes to help people who are resettling after a crisis.
All money raised by the gig will help support HFS’s ‘Starter Pack’ project which provides essential cooking and cleaning items for households that are starting out again from scratch after a crisis, whether that be homelessness, time in a refuge, a prison sentence or flood/fire damage to property.
