Zoom Arts extends its reach
Multiples of exhibitions on offer from Zoom Arts, the local group of artists who exhibit here and roundabouts. Great to see the spectrum of artwork they produce, proving that ‘AHA!’ moment I had years ago – the realisation that every piece of artwork is unique. And one person’s masterpiece is another’s monstrosity. Zelly Restorick’s update on where you can find Zoom Arts exhibitions, whilst promenading and perusing in the coming weeks.
The Zoom Arts Group was originally set up by Robert Maxted and John Scowen. After studying photography, they became aware of the challenges they faced if they wanted to exhibit their work. And lo! The Zoom Arts Group was born.
Christina Macadam
Christina Macadam says: “I was born and raised on a farm in Kitale, Kenya, East Africa. At 14 years old, my family moved to Uganda – and I have been living permanently in the UK since I was 17 years old. I Love Colour!
Colourmakesmesmile. Itmakessensetome. Itopensmyheart. Urgesmetocreate! My creativity seems to be a journey through C o l o u r.
“I started to value and investigate my creative urges and impulses when I was 30 and a single mother of two children. I studied GNVQ in Art & Design, combined with GCSE Art & Design, followed by an A’ Level in Art & Crafts.
“I paint to heal myself, to be free of my perceived earthly limitations and to endeavour to understand and embrace my relationship with myself, life and the rest of the world. I use art as a tool to work through life’s journeys and cycles. The further on in life I travel, deeper meaning and understanding of my true self, my Soul, seem to emerge through the canvas. As my journey unfolds, I feel I am forging a deeper connection within myself and in my relationships with others and Nature.
“When I get a feeling to paint, I explore this desire and develop images that help me to communicate the emotion that is evolving and seeking expression from deep within me. Painting is my invitation to really look deeply into my life as it is in the moment. It inspires me to search for, progress and bring more authenticity to my own existence in my day to day living and in my work.”
Exhibition info: 8-13 August. Opening time: 10.00-17.30. Zoom Arts Gallery, at the front of Warrior Square Station, King’s road, St Leonards-on-Sea TN37 6HL.
James M Vaughan
Figments: A photographic exhibition by James M Vaughan. A retrospective of projects from the past four years.
James is a local artist interested in the transitional states that photography can inhabit; in the uncertain areas occupied by ideas of truth, performance and fiction. This must-see exhibition examines and subverts these notions by using humorous staged interventions along with virtual representations of the real. In this show, the use of different photographic genres including Street, Still life, Fine art, Portraiture and Stop Motion Video, invite the viewer to enter a space of interrogation through visual stimuli.
Exhibition info: Monday 22 August-Saturday 27 August. Opening time: 10:30-15:30. This free exhibition can be viewed at the Zoom Arts Gallery, Warrior Square Station, St Leonards-on-Sea.
Juliet Przyborski
Juliet Przyborski’s upcoming exhibition, Cast Of Characters, will be showing at the Zoom Arts Gallery Warrior Square Station from the 29 Aug until 2 Sept, with a preview evening set for Fri 29 Aug from 7pm until 9pm.
“Juliet’s watercolour and acrylic paintings for the Cast Of Characters exhibition was inspired by her time in the theatre and gives an insight into this modest yet multifaceted artist, who really led from the heart when she created this body of work.”
Alongside Juliet will be her special guest artist Linda Bell, who preferred not to say anything about herself at this time. Let her artwork speak for itself.
Exhibition info: Preview night 29 August 2016 19.00 – 21.00. “Help a struggling artist”, she says, “and bring your own drink!” Opening times: Monday 29 August, 11.00-15.00, Tuesday 30 August-Friday 2 September, 14.00-19.00. Zoom Arts Gallery, Warrior Square Station, St Leonards.
