Dollimore walks it, while LibDems gain two East Sussex seats

It was pretty much as the polls predicted both locally and nationally – Helena Dollimore easing to victory for Labour in Hastings & Rye, while her party more than reversed its historic losses of 2019 across the UK. Elsewhere in East Sussex the Conservatives lost two seats to the Liberal Democrats but held on to the other two. Nick Terdre reports, graphics by Russell Hall.

Walking the Fish returns on Saturday 6 July!

This popular community event celebrating Hastings fishing heritage and our creative community spirit was created by local arts collective Radiator Arts back in 2002 and has been sorely missed in the festival calendar over recent years. This year the Radiator Arts is delighted to have been awarded funding to revive and renew the event – it’s a brilliant way to celebrate 20 years of community creating. Erica Smith wishes them a happy anniversary.

America Ground: the Musical goes down a storm

The arrival of the America Ground was an accidental experiment, now turned into a rollicking musical by John Knowles, Bob Tipler, and other notable talents. Keeping our streets clean restores pride in our local community

As the general election approaches people become more vocal about their concerns, hoping that their next MP will tackle high rents or sewage in the sea. There is one issue, however, we can all do something about and that is keeping our streets tidy and clean.  We are fortunate in St Leonards to have a team of tidy warriors who have been doing just that since 2018. Dee Williams talks to Trevor Thwaites from Tidy Up St Leonards.

Staff strike at four Hastings Brighton Academy trust schools

Staff are going on strike at five University of Brighton Aacademy trust schools in East and West Sussex, four out of five of which are in Hastings. Nick Childs reports for the National Education Union.
