Feline arty? Cinema Cats are on display for Coastal Currents

Montague Armstrong (Jude Montague and Matt Armstrong) have created a purr-fectly playful new exhibition, ‘Cinema Cats’, at the Electric Palace cinema for this year’s Coastal Currents. Edith Festival 2023

The ‘Edith Festival’, named after Edith Swanneck, wife of King Harold II who died at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and whose combined statue is in West Marina Gardens, is run by the Friends of Edith and presents a range of events during Hastings Week to celebrate our cultural and historical heritage. Celebrating 350 years of Hastings Quakers

Hastings saw its first Quaker Meeting back in 1673. Hastings Quakers will be celebrating this anniversary during national Quaker Week which runs from 24 September and finishes on 1 October – International Quaker Day. HOT’s Erica Smith praises these gentle yet strong-minded folk.

Climate crisis is forging an unrecognisable world

Forget about the pleasures of Britain becoming a wine producer – whatever upsides the climate crisis may offer will be overwhelmed by the devastating downsides. These can already be seen not just in the heatwaves afflicting countries around the world, but other phenomena which foreshadow disastrous developments, says Richard Price. The world we leave to our children and grandchildren will be unrecognisable from the one we have grown up in, he says.
