A wonderful, watery end for the Dear Future festival

The Dear Future festival at the Electric Palace climaxes this Sunday morning, 6 November, with a multi-media event including live music, short films and a time-travelling performance that begins in Doncaster and ends at the lost spring in St Helen’s Woods. Erica Smith takes the plunge and books her ticket.

PhotoHastings 2022 festival ends with Dan Percy and Agness Clark show

Hastings Arts Forum is holding the last show of the 2020 PhotoHastings Festival. The season has been excellent, introducing new work and techniques to fresh audiences. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see the latest exhibition of two new PhotoHastings members, Agness Clark and Dan Percy, in an aptly named show, Balance in Opposition.

JJ Waller is back in St Leonards

Some photographers decide early on that that is their passion, others evolve and develop over time. JJ Waller tried out a variety of things before picking up a camera seriously and taking to the streets. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was delighted to learn that he is just publishing another book of his St Leonards and Hastings photographs: the characters, the Festivals, the town all with a kind eye and sense of fun.

Prince of Bebop Greg Abate centre stage at Jazz Hastings

Centre stage at Jazz Hastings’ session on Tuesday 8 November will be American saxophonist, flautist and composer Greg Abate, one of the hardest working musicians on the international jazz circuit, reports Julian Norridge.

New appointments at Hastings International Piano

With immediate effect, the charity Hastings International Piano is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Vanessa Latarche as Artistic Director. HIP has also appointed Paul Hughes, formerly Director of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and BBC Singers, as a consultant acting Managing Director to build on the success of the 2022 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition and develop future strategy while the search is on for a permanent successor to Ian Roberts.

Hastings Invited to ‘Come Dine For Palestine’

Foodies are invited to sample a host of Palestinian vegetarian dishes on Saturday 26 November at a one-off event hosted by local Palestine solidarity groups. Chair of Hastings and Rye Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Katy Colley writes.
