Battle Festival summer residency offer

Battle Festival invites applications from young people aged 14-25 for a summer residency as part of Battle Festival, working with Glyndebourne, Opera Circus and Crisis Classroom to produce The Giufà Project – and applications are now open for their August residency at Battle Abbey School, 20 to 31 August. Hannah Collisson writes.

New plan for Ore library

PLANS to re-open recently closed Ore library as a community-run facility have been given the go-ahead, following a decision by Cllr David Elkin, East Sussex County Council, lead member for resources.

The Big Sleep 2018

The Seaview Project in St Leonards on Sea presents their annual Sponsored Sleep Out, raising funds and awareness of homelessness. You can participate as an individual or as a team – or you can sponsor one of the participants or make a donation. Every penny goes direct to Seaview and will support those who live on the margins of our community.

‘When the Oak Spoke’

Hastings based environmental artist, Beccy McCray got Wadhurst talking when she launched her latest participatory arts project, ‘When the Oak Spoke’, an initiative commissioned by local arts charity, Wadhurst Culture. Over 250 attendees of all ages enjoyed a sun-filled event at Sparrows Green Pavilion and Recreation Ground, taking part in a range of activities, from talks to ‘poet-tree’.

National charity serves up free tennis

With Wimbledon just around the corner and during the first weekend of the prestigious Nature Valley International Tennis Tournament in Eastbourne, national sports charity, Tennis For Free has served up an ace for Bexhill-on-Sea at Egerton Park and the surrounding area by investing in a year-long programme of free tennis sessions. Julian Fisher writes.

Help ‘futureproof’ beautiful Fairlight church

Driving along the road to Fairlight, if you didn’t know it was there, blink and you would miss St Andrew’s Church with its majestic tower, historical graveyard and interesting architectural features.
