Pier proves a welcome saviour for live music in Hastings

‘When The Oak Spoke’

‘When The Oak Spoke’ is a socially engaged art commission led by local visual artist, Beccy McCray for Wadhurst Culture: a community arts charity in Wadhurst in East Sussex. This year-long project reveals invisible forms of woodland communication and gives trees a voice – especially the oak, an important symbol of Wadhurst.

‘When the Oak Spoke’

Hastings based environmental artist, Beccy McCray got Wadhurst talking when she launched her latest participatory arts project, ‘When the Oak Spoke’, an initiative commissioned by local arts charity, Wadhurst Culture. Over 250 attendees of all ages enjoyed a sun-filled event at Sparrows Green Pavilion and Recreation Ground, taking part in a range of activities, from talks to ‘poet-tree’.

‘Easter Thursday’ heralded the launch night of a classier-than-average and more-female-focussed-than-usual spoken word night at The Printworks. HOT’s Erica Smith was there to watch The Whole She-Bang kick off and is preparing herself for the second, Election Night Special event.
