The Primrose Piano Quartet

One of the UK’s leading chamber ensembles The Primrose Piano Quartet returns to Battle Festival, performing at no less than four eventthis year. Ahead of the Mozart Quintet with Michael Collins on 28 Oct, for which they are joined by the star clarinettist, we hear from one of their members, violinist Susanne Stanzeleit (based in Battle) who tells of her musical upbringing and some very special collaborations. Holy&intoxicated Series 4

Life long Hastings-ite and poet, John D. Robinson has produced Series 4 of his Holy&intoxicated Publications Poetry Card Series. Following in the footsteps of the previous Series, John says that Number 4 is “firing full power on all 5 cylinders, with high calibre poetry”. Managed decline of oil industry

At a full Council meeting at County Hall in Lewes, campaigners handed-in over 2,800 signatures calling for East Sussex County Council to divest local people’s pensions from fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas). Cllr Richard Stogdon, Chair of the East Sussex Pension Committee stated:  ‘[I]t is in the best interest of the [East Sussex Pension] Fund to get the entire oil industry to put itself on a pathway of “managed decline”.’

HBC’s ‘Grotbusters’ scheme

The council launched its ‘Grotbusters’ initiative in 2000 as a response to the town’s high number of run down and derelict buildings. It uses a piece of planning law (Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990) to approach landowners to ask them to tidy up and improve the look of their properties. If property owners fail to do so, they can be served with an Enforcement Notice, which can lead to a prosecution and fine, initially of up to £1,000, then a cumulative fine of £100 a day if they do not do the work.

Decision imminent on St Leonards Crown Post Office: Public Meeting this Saturday, 21 October

The campaign to Save St Leonards’ Crown Post Office is one-year old next month. The final decision on its future is imminent. A Public Meeting has been arranged by campaigners for this coming Saturday, 21 October, to bring residents up-to-date with developments and to seek views on the next steps. Rosie Brocklehurst writes.
