Everyone can draw!

That’s EVERYONE! If you have any doubts, come to Hastings Arts Forum on Saturday or Sunday, October 21 or 22, from 10am to 4pm and give it a try, writes HOT reporter John Cole.

Hermit – a life on the margins

Hastings has its own legendary hermit, John Hancox, who lived in a cave in Ecclesbourne Glen for around fourteen years until his death in 1904. Sadly, homelessness is becoming an increasingly important issue in society, and now local community arts organisation, Radiator, has joined forces with the local wellbeing centre, Seaview, to produce a unique event based on John’s life. HOT reporter Cathy Simpson talked to Rebecca Child, who is leading the project along with Mary Hooper and Hilary Turner.

Many of you will have met Talullah, the twelve-foot-high mermaid who cheerfully makes an annual appearance at Jack in the Green. Now her creators, Radiator Arts, have come indoors – the weather’s getting cold – and will be hosting a totally unique event in the Stade Hall. HOT reporter and Radiator Arts member, Cathy Simpson, hops onto a snow plough and reveals more.

Knit your own fish and chip shop

As youngsters, we were told that making fishing nets was easy: all fishermen do is sew a few holes together! Well, now you can bring your own holes, create your own nets and much, much more at a series of wonderful workshops on offer at Stade Hall throughout May and June.
