Barcelona Boomerang cyclists

Barcelona Boomerang!

The challenge? A charity cycle ride from Hastings to Barcelona – and back – in eight days. Five cyclists. Two thousand plus miles. All weather conditions. Altitudes as high as 2000 metres above sea level. Temperatures as low as 2°. Why? To raise awareness of cystic fibrosis and funds for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. HOT’s Zelly Restorick was there to see the cyclists start their journey.

Forest Schools

Natural learning

Forest Schools offer children and adults a wonderful opportunity “to learn about nature and science by being there in person, not via books”, explained Martin Felstead of Sussex Wildlife Trust to HOT’s Zelly Restorick. She decided to find out more about the significant difference this outdoor learning project is making to the lives of some local children and adults.

Just opened at Lucy Bell’s Gallery in St Leonards is an intriguing, collaborative exhibition – Tableaux Whispers Echoes – from the photographer Bruce Rae, Monty Python’s Terry Jones and painter Tom Phillips.   HOT journalist Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to discover more about Bruce Rae and how this exhibition came into being.

I won't sleep til I devour you © Tabitha Knight

The art currently on show at The Kave is mainly a personal narrative concerning the breakdown of a relationship. Tabitha Knight echoes Sartre in showing the apparent impossibility of the individual to achieve harmonious personal relationships. The very attempt earns the title The Fool’s Journey. Knight isn’t portraying, (as Sartre did), all personal relationships as essentially power struggles, incapable of resolution, rather, her art repeats the cry of Amy Winehouse that Love is a losing game. Hot reporter, Joe Fearn, went along to the private view and discussed how art may reflect life with the artist and visitors.

Performers in the Bicycle Ballet

Busby Berkeley bicycles

On Saturday 29 September, the Bicycle Ballet is coming to town… in fact, it’s already here, training up cyclists to circle like the Red Arrows and create choreographed pyrotechnics. HOT’s Erica Smith asked one of the organisers, John Knowles, what it is all about…
