Nick Wallis in Hastings to talk on the great Post Office scandal

Six years ago, locals mobilised to oppose plans to sell off the St Leonards Crown Post Office. What we were unaware of at the time was that a much greater scandal was unfolding – the persecution of subpostmasters who, due to the PO’s faulty IT system, were apparently fiddling their accounts. Nick Wallis, the journalist who has done most to expose the scandal, is coming to Hastings on 10 May to talk about the campaign. Rosie Brocklehurst, who has organised his visit, fills in the background.

Residents’ voice still ignored as bathing pool site plans advance

Hastings Borough Council is pushing ahead with its plans for a large housing development on the former bathing pool site in West St Leonards, unmoved by the continuing efforts of local residents to have a say in what happens in their neck of the woods. Residents are asked to object to the council’s planned disposal of the site and attend the Cabinet meeting next Monday when their petition will be presented. Community presence to be felt at the Post Office Customer Forum on Thursday 3 August

The Save St Leonards Crown Post Office Campaign is concerned that Post Office Ltd are not taking account of local views on the future of St Leonards Crown Post Office. The Post Office is holding a ‘customer forum’ on Thursday 3 August they have specified that: ‘the decision on the way we operate the branch, so it is run by our new retail partner, is not a matter for public consultation’. Rod Webb and others from the campaign group talk to HOT about the plans for a mass gathering outside the Royal Victoria Hotel where the ‘customer forum’ will be held.
