Local car club agreed in principle
Many of us can drive, but we don’t own cars, writes Barbara Rogers. I have been in contact with Co-wheels, a car club, which already has cars in Tunbridge Wells and Lewes and is planning some in Eastbourne and now Hastings. The Council has agreed in principle, and proposed a parking place in Hastings town centre. If successful, more cars could be parked in designated car parks and street bays around the town.
I would like to get this started as soon as possible: Co-wheels would be greatly encouraged if there are several of us ready to join the club and use the cars. It is environmentally friendly, because it means we don’t have to have our own car, so there’d be fewer cars on the road, and it is also cost-effective for members, because Co-wheels do all the maintenance, insurance and servicing. We use a car only when we need to. We pay a monthly £5 fee, deducted from any car use that month. Hourly hire is £4.50 for a Toyota Aygo, one day is £27.
