Animal charities await your support

As Hastings prepares for its third annual Animal Charities Xmas Fayre next weekend, organiser Angie Hamp talks to Shelley Feldman about the event.

Hi Angie, what is the Animal Charities Fayre?

The Animal Charities Fayre is a community event, with the core roots being charity. It is a non profit and aims to bring local animal rescues, sanctuaries and educational groups together, raising awareness, fund-raising, finding forever homes and educating the public on animal welfare and the importance of neutering. The stalls and admission are free, so the money made by each charity goes to that charity.

How long has the fayre been running?

This will be the third event, and the second Christmas one.

What motivated you to set it up?

I was motivated by the London vegan fayres organised by friends who encouraged others to emulate their popular annual event.

Tell us about some of the stalls.

There are a stalls of all kinds helping wild, domestic, farm and marine creatures: the Cinnamon Trust provides volunteer pet carers for the temporarily infirm, they are active locally in Hastings, Cats Protection supports rehoming and affordable neutering schemes and the Fox Project looks after injured foxes. Most of the stalls are run by volunteers and there is always a lot of demand for spaces.

How can people get involved?

Turn up on the day and support the stall holders by buying gifts, sponsoring animals and having a drink and chat in the pop-up café.

Thank you, Angie, anything else you would like to say?

As I have said, the event is non profit, and free for stallholders and visitors to attend. Our popular raffle and café, serving low-cost wholesome food, helps us keep things running.

If anyone would like to offer a prize for the raffle they can contact me at Trinity Wholefoods, Trinity Street, or drop something into 1066 Cake Stand, Queens Road. We are grateful for any prizes, but they will need to be suitable for vegans!
