The Menopause — An Essential Guide
Antonia Chitty reviews Nicci Talbot’s book for those approaching or experiencing menopause, and some who just can’t shake off the symptoms
A year or two ago I suspected I was experiencing an early menopause. Looking into the subject showed me just what a lack of good books there are on the topic, so I was delighted to be able to review The Menopause: An Essential Guide.
If you’re going through the menopause or suspect that it’s on the way, this is a practical guide that covers everything that you might need to know. It will help you understand how your hormones work and what changes as you reach the menopause. Author Nicci Talbot outlines both conventional HRT and alternative and complementary therapies. What’s more, the books gives you good practical advice in every chapter on topics such as food, exercise and looking after yourself. An experienced writer on sexual health, Talbot is not afraid to delve into the topic of good sex during the menopause and beyond.
As with all Need2Know books, each chapter has a checklist at the end of each chapter to make it easy for you to take action. Plus there are plenty of references through out the book to help you look into areas of interest more deeply, and a useful contacts section. I particularly enjoyed the last chapter in the book. If you want reassurance and understanding, start here, where you can hear from women about their own experiences. Inspiring, funny, full of quirky tips, this chapter makes what is an excellent book outstanding.
