Delivery of food during Covid-19

Part 2.

Since we posted our first local Food delivery of prepared food and groceries Lauris Morgan-Griffiths has been made aware of more local businesses helping locals during these challenging times. It’s good to back local businesses who are supporting us in Hastings while we experience self isolation and social distance.

Meal deliveries

Queen’s Deli started contactless deliveries just before Easter and was overwhelmed by the local interest and support. They will be delivering some of their finest quality products: wine, cheese, anchovies, sardines, flour, olive oil, tins of tomatoes, passata, pasta, polenta, spanish white beans.

Produce changes all the time as it comes available, so check on Queen’s Deli Facebook page for new items. Orders can be made directly on 07780676024 and must be received by midday for same day free local delivery for orders over £30. Jez will deliver for orders under £30, but there will be a delivery charge.

For anyone craving a meat or vegan burger, Half Man Half  Burger are back in business, providing a limited menu delivery service. Order from 9am Thursday to Sunday. Deliveries 5 – 9 p.m.

You need to be speedy though; they are a small team and each slot sells out fast. They deliver over a 2 mile radius, although sadly, I couldn’t see their delivery charges. When I tried, the site was saying closed, so I assume they had already sold their quota for the day. Enter your post code and presumably all will become clear.

Mama Putts

Mama Putts

Mama Putts African-Caribbean Restaurant on 01424 435101 is open for Takeaway. Opening times are on the website. Closed Sunday. They serve such Caribbean specialities as Fish or Pepper soup, Plantain Balls, Jerk Chicken Fish or Chicken Curry, Rice and Peas and Jollof Rice.

La Bella Vista 01424 423608 is offering a delivery service for their pasta, pizzas, as well as meat and fish. There is a 10% discount on their A La Carte menu. Free delivery within a 5 mile radius with orders over £20 from Wednesday to Sunday

Homeground food

Homeground food

Home Ground launched their delivery service with a menu of frozen meals that you can have delivered and put in the oven to eat at home. You will find the menu their website. Fill in your post code when you place your Order.  If you choose ‘collect’ you don’t need to enter your postcode first and you can just browse the menu. Menu is updated on Facebook each week.

Home Ground is open from Wednesdays and over the weekend. If you want to be on the day’s delivery run, order by 12 for deliveries between 2 – 4pm. Or order for collection on Friday. They intend to launch hot take-away hampers on Friday and Saturday evenings in a couple of weeks. The charge is £3.50 and they cover an 8 mile radius.

Fish and Chips

I have heard varying reports of the different fish and chippies over the years…. ‘They don’t use local fish’… ‘They don’t change their fat often enough’. Everyone seems to have their own favourite. HOT are not recommending any particular chippie, and in no special order here are a few, take your pick or ask friends which their preferences are. And there are others.

Fresh Vegetable Deliveries

As you can imagine, at this time, fresh vegetable suppliers have been swamped by requests for fresh, local veg.

Stoneylynk Organics  are a small organic market-garden in Battery Hill, Fairlight, TN35 4AP growing vegetables for box schemes. However due to the surge in demand they are selling direct from their garden gate. Sign up to their scheme and  you will receive by email their weekly produce list every Thursday, detailing what is available for the week ahead. You can then place an order for collection detailing what you’d like, and when you’d like to collect it. Collection occurs directly from their garden in Fairlight. Payment is welcome by either cash or card.

Peapod Veg are at maximum capacity but you can put yourself on their waiting list when a space becomes vacant. They have three sizes of box for one, two and three people. From June to November, Pea Pod Veg fill  their boxes with their own grown, seasonal, fresh and nutritious vegetables In the cooler months they are supported by the UK Organic growing community. All the vegetables in a Pea Pod Veg Box are sourced from organically certified farms. They deliver on Thursdays between midday and 8.30pm.

In brief, the businessses mentioned were Marina Fountain, Dandelion Deli, The Beacon, Azur, Tommy’s Pizzeria, Brewing Brothers at The Imperial, Sussex Fruits and Good on Greens.

We are sure there are other kind and generous folk running their businesses to help and support us all and we thank them for that. If you’d like to add them into the Comments section then you are more than welcome. Meanwhile, support our local community and stay safe.
