Contributions of migrants celebrated
One Day Without Us, a national day of action on Monday 20th to help draw attention to the contribution of migrants to life in the UK, went off well, not least in Hastings, as Hastings Green Party reports.
The Hastings Green Party held a very successful One Day Without Us event in the town centre to celebrate the contribution of migrants to the UK, and particularly to Hastings. The event was just one of over 70 similar events organised in towns up and down the UK on the UN World Day of Social Justice.
In Hastings, people were invited to take a selfie with a message of thanks to migrants from anywhere in the world who live, work or study in the UK. These were displayed on large panels, together with the contributions of passers-by who wrote their own messages of thanks.
“We had a really positive response from people in Hastings who have first-hand experience of the important contribution which migrants make to our town,” said HGP spokesperson Andrea Needham.
“We also spoke to many people who had themselves come to Hastings from other countries, and were glad to see this solidarity event taking place. Hastings is a wonderfully diverse community and we wanted to be part of One Day Without Us to show the many positive things that come from that diversity.”
