The Big Sleep Bubble 2021
Seaview’s sponsored mass sleep-out returns as the Big Sleep Bubble on Friday 1 October, raising awareness and funds for some of the town’s most vulnerable people. Josie Barnes tells us how we can all support Seaview by spending the night in our own cardboard city.
The Big Sleep Bubble is asking people to sleep in their own outdoor space either individually or within their own support bubble, whether that be with family or friends. This year Seaview has chosen to do the event this way due to the pandemic and any restrictions that may arise as a result. Seaview wants the Big Sleep Bubble not only to be Covid safe, but Covid proof!
The event will take place from 7pm until 7am, with prizes available in return for sponsorship milestones. This year there are limited boxes so participants are encouraged to sign up ASAP via the Seaview website. The first 25 people to raise £25 or more will have a box to sleep in reserved for them. Boxes can be delivered to those who live within a 3 mile radius of Seaview.
More sponsorship incentives include: The highest Bubble fundraiser will receive a meal from Half Man Half Burger and the best photograph from the night will receive a prize to be announced soon on The Big Sleep Hastings Facebook page and Instagram.
Seaview will also be hosting a live stream on Facebook for an hour. There will be a brief speech about The Big Sleep and how it’s helped Seaview over the years followed by a music performance by Archie Norris an up and coming musician signed by Dave Stewart. Follow the live stream on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
For over 35 years Seaview has been supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Hastings and St Leonard’s, most of whom experience problems with their accommodation. The reality of sleeping rough is not something experienced by the majority of people, and albeit for one night only, The Big Sleep hopes to enable participants to engage with the reality of bedding down for the night with only a cardboard box and/or sleeping bag for warmth.
All funds raised will go towards Seaview’s work with vulnerable and homeless people.
