Javad: court case update
Here’s the latest update to Javad’s case, the young autistic man and his unofficial guardians and supporters, Terry and Stuart, who have taken Javad into their home and hearts, offering him a stable environment and a place to settle, whilst he fights for his right to stay in the UK. Terry has written to HOT’s Zelly Restorick about Javad’s court case.
“Yesterday, 8 of us went to court to support Javad with his hearing. We packed out the little court room and created a favourable impression. However, after quite a long wait, the decision was made to postpone the hearing for 6 months – to the 20 February 2019! The reasons for this are: the judge and barrister both felt that his case would take several hours to hear and they have directed the solicitor to ensure further assessments are carried out on Javad to confirm his difficulties and decide whether he has the capacity to speak in court.
“While this is deeply disappointing for Javad who is upset at the thought of further delays and more tests, it is really good news for his case. It shows the Home Office is taking it seriously and is willing to give Javad the time it needs and the best possible chance of success.
“Petition numbers are going really well, but having been given this extra time to prepare, let’s see if we can get up to 100,000 in time for next hearing! The barrister has asked for the link to the signatures to be included in the bundle sent off 3 weeks before the hearing. Please get sharing! Any of you budding journalists fancy trying to get something published to support him?
“Please share this link to the petition with your friends, family and colleagues.”
With thanks from Javad, Terry and Stuart – and all those who support their campaign for Javad to remain in the UK. For all previous HOT articles about Javad and his life, please type ‘Javad’ in the HOT search engine.
