Greenway Group walk the Country Park this weekend
Hastings Greenway Group is on the move this weekend, walking the Country Park route. You are cordially invited to join them at the top of the East Hill lift at 2.30pm on Saturday for a stroll to Fairlight. Nick Terdre lays out the ground. Photos by HGG.
It’s a walk of about two and a half miles from one side of Hastings Country Park to the other, ending up at the cafe in Coastguard Lane in Fairlight. A sunny day and a gentle breeze is forecast with temperatures up to 22°C – what’s not to like?
Walking boots are essential. However, apart from the middle section – along Barley Lane – the route is not suitable for wheelchairs, the group explains. It is, however, one of their aims to create an all access, hard surfaced route for all sections of the Greenway project. Barley Lane is part of the existing National Cycle Network.
Energetic participants can return by the same route but there is a public transport option – the 101 bus stops by Fairlight Church (departures at 15.57, 16.35 and 17.35).
The leaflet produced by the group earlier this year with maps of the various proposed Greenway sections is proving very popular and is being used a lot by staff at the tourist information office, chair Tony Polain tells HOT.
