The Healing Weed
This Saturday afternoon, 31 May, Steve Danks is talking at The Roomz, St Leonards, about cannabis and its miraculous medicinal powers. Steve has always been a fan of the drug, but he is an all-out champion for medical use of cannabis. HOT’s Erica Smith asked him about his relationship with the mighty weed.
How long have you been smoking cannabis?
I don’t really smoke cannabis, I have smoked cannabis, the first time was when I was 14/15 years old, in 1971/72.
Do you have any concerns about its recreational use? For example, Skunk is a much more powerful drug than the cannabis available in the ’60s and ’70s…
Skunk was a newspaper story, the main difference between cannabis that was available in the ’60s and ’70s and now is the way its grown – sunlight vs indoor lighting; natural growing vs chemical growing. For me, Mother Nature knows best, but then I eat organic food.
It does seem to mess up some young people’s minds – depending on the age and social setting. The research is looking in to this now and coming up with some very interesting and exciting information. Many of the natural organic compounds in cannabis sativa L are found in breast milk!
When did you start realising the healing properties of cannabis?
In about 1998/99. Following that, I ran a business called The Hemp Garden which sold cannabis based skin-care products, and I’m currently developing a high end cannabis-based moisturiser called ‘Love Me’ – watch this space – it will be in a shop near you shortly!
Tell me the story of your illness and how cannabis cured you.
I went in to hospital with Hepatitis C and end stage liver cancer, but by using an extract of concentrated tincture of cannabis, I managed to get rid of the cancer and my liver is regenerating. In fact my whole being is regenerating, it’s like turning the clock back. The Doctor says “It’s a miracle!”
