Life-changing technology needed for Maddie
HOT’s Zelly Restorick writes: “Walking into B&Q at Glyne Gap a few days ago, I saw a man with a bucket collecting money. Chatting to him, I learned about his family’s very personal mission on behalf his granddaughter, Maddie. I spoke to Maddie’s Mum, Jade – and found out more about their quest.”
“Maddison and her twin sister, Lola, were born at 29 weeks”, explains Jade, “and somewhere along the line, Maddie was deprived of oxygen. Due to this, Maddie has a form of brain damage called bilateral cystic periventricular leukomalacia, which has led to Maddison having quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
“Maddison and Lola are now two years old. Maddison cannot verbally communicate with us and her mobility is limited, although she has learned to roll by herself. But she is unable to sit, stand or walk. However, she is a very happy and determined little girl, who is nearly always smiling, just like her twin.
“I would like to raise money to buy Maddison a specific piece of equipment – an OmiVista interactive floor – and a few small sensory toys and lights to stimulate her and get her involved in more things. I would like to make her an area in her room that can be her sensory corner, where she can play and learn and we can encourage her development. The OmiVista interactive floor and sensory toys would also enable her to learn new things – things that most of us take for granted.
“Any donation would be very much appreciated, even if you could just donate a £1 to help us reach our goal. Unfortunately, this piece of equipment is very expensive and there is only so much help we can receive towards its purchase.
“Thank you for reading this. If you would like to support us and donate to Maddie’s fund, please visit the GoFundMe site. It only takes a couple of minutes – and you would be massively helping out a very grateful family, who would appreciate any help you can offer.”
Here’s a link to the OmiVista interactive floor, so you know what equipment Jade and her family are aiming to buy for Maddie.
