Mayor leads energy price reduction scheme
Mayor of Hastings Councillor Alan Roberts is fronting a council initiative to secure lower energy prices for local residents. Those wishing to take part have until 15 October to register. Nick Terdre reports.
Under the Switched on Hastings scheme, the council will invite energy suppliers to make an offer to all those willing to switch in order to enjoy lower energy prices. Whichever supplier offers the best deal can look forward to securing a batch of new customers in one fell swoop.
In making their offer, suppliers will clearly take into account the number of potential new customers, in other words, those who have registered.
“I hope people will follow my lead and sign up to this great new scheme, it really could save residents money on energy bills,” Mayor Roberts says. “The more people who sign up, the greater our purchasing power, and you can sign up if you live in Hastings, St Leonards and the surrounding area! I strongly urge people to register interest soon as the deadline is approaching.”
There is nothing to lose by registering – there is no obligation on anyone’s part to accept the deal from the winning supplier.
Moreover, you will be able to find out how much you could save before making any decision. If you decide to go ahead, the process of switching from your current supplier will be seamless and simple, the council says.
Registration is easiest online at the council’s website (http://www.hastings.gov.uk), but residents who don’t have internet access can register at the Community Contact Centre at the Town Hall, Mondays to Fridays from 4.30 to 6pm. The deadline for registration is 15 October.
