Timestalker + Q&A with director Alice Lowe

A darkly hilarious anti-romcom where the central character regenerates Blackadderishly throughout the years, from the 1680s to the 1980s, forever in love with the same man who is unworthy of her.

Director: Alice Lowe

89 mins / 2024 / UK

Alice Lowe’s anti-romcom is a darkly hilarious spin through history, where filmmaker Alice Lowe dreams her way into a cosmically recurring persona in this likably chaotic, flawed comedy; she plays a woman who regenerates Blackadderishly throughout the years, from the 1680s to the 1980s, forever in love with the same man, forever destined to sacrifice herself for him, almost but not quite in possession of the knowledge that this guy is unworthy of her. At each stage, the incarnations of the past are perhaps dream-memories and the personae of the future are prophecies. Or … is she just very, very mad?

With nods to Witchfinder General and Barry Lyndon, this cineliterate anti-rom com is a low-budget delight and we are delighted to welcome writer, director and actor Alice Lowe (Prevenge and Sight Seers) for a post-screening Q&A – on Saturday 8 March only.

Part of our Female Gaze mini-season celebrating International Women’s Month with F-rated films that highlight women on screen and behind the camera.
