The Prisoner + intro from Jude Montague & David Valentine

Wonder at the renowned series in which a British agent is imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village.

Director: Don Chaffey, Pat Jackson, Patrick McGoohan

50 min + 50 min / 1967 – 68 / UK

The Prisoner, written, directed and starring Patrick McGoohan, portrays Number Six, an unnamed British intelligence agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village after resigning from his position.

The allegorical plotlines of the series contain elements of science fiction, psychological drama, and spy fiction and it was originally screening in the late 1960s and has since cultivated a cult following partly due to it being a single series of 17 episodes with exterior location filming primarily taking place in the Welsh seaside village of Portmeirion. Although the show was sold as a thriller in the mould of Danger Man, McGoohan’s previous series, its surreal and Kafkaesque setting and reflection of concerns of the 1960s counterculture have had a far-reaching influence on popular culture and cultivated a cult following.

In this special screening we will show the first and last episodes with a special introduction by David Valentine and short film by artist and musician, Jude Montague.
