Psycho

A young secretary on the run for embezzlement stops for the night at the Bates Motel, run by a shy young man and his overbearing, unstable mother. Hitchcock’s finest moment – a horror classic!

Director: ALFRED HITCHCOCK

109 MINS / 1960 / USA / ENGLISH

Fright Night hosts Emily Booth and Kim Taylor-Foster present Psycho, with introduction from TV critic Kim Taylor-Foster.

Phoenix office worker Marion Crane is fed up with the way life has treated her. She has to sneak around to see her lover Sam and they can’t get married because Sam has to give most of his money away in alimony. One Friday, Marion is trusted to bank forty thousand dollars by her employer. Seeing the opportunity to take the money and start a new life, Marion leaves town and heads towards Sam’s California store. Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she turns off the main highway and pulls into the Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be dominated by his overbearing mother.

Because Psycho was filmed with tact, grace, and art, Hitchcock didn’t just create modern horror, he validated it. Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is considered by many as the best horror film ever, embodying “the fear of the boy next door” and the terror lay in the fact that the killer “could be the person sitting next to you”. Directed by the master of suspense, chilling soundtrack from Bernhard Herrmann along with iconic performances from Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins make this a Fright Night classic not to be missed!

Introduction by Kim Taylor-Foster

Introducing the screening is Kim Taylor-Foster, a film and TV critic, journalist, broadcaster, and author. Her books include ‘Why We Love The Matrix’ and ‘Why We Love Die Hard’.
