A poetry challenge to Southend on Sea
By
John Knowles
To Tory MP David Amess I accept your challenge thrown down in haste, that the ‘city’ I live in, is just a waste.
I challenge your town to a poetry word-off, lets see if Southend is hard enough.
Now one of our sons has defected to your shore, Justin Rhyme lives here no more.
Come Justin come Southend do your best, let’s put these cities of culture to the test.
I challenge you now to put pen to paper, lets see who is rock and who is rapier.
We’ll publish the poems and let the world judge, hard as nails or soft as fudge!!
