Meet Giles Duley: award winning photographer
Hastings-based photographer appears at the Electric Palace cinema this Saturday 15 March, to raise funds for Mines Advisory Group, writes Annie Waite.
In February 2011, Giles was catastrophically injured whilst working in Afghanistan, which resulted in the loss of both legs and his left arm.
The Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town is screening the film ‘Walking Wounded: Return to the Frontline’ about Giles, on Saturday 15th March, 8pm, including a Q&A with Giles after the film. Half of ticket sales will go towards the Mines Advisory Group.
Giles relocated from London to Hastings over a decade ago having spent his early career flying from one exotic location to the next as a fashion photographer. Having learned his craft he made the transition to hard-hitting reportage embarking on secretive road trips to some of the most afflicted war zones in the world.
Giles’ first words upon realising the extent of his injuries were, “I’m still a photographer”. He now lives independently with minimal assistance and has returned to his work as promised.
This is a fabulous opportunity to see the multi award-winning Channel 4 film documenting Giles’ first major photographic assignment after sustaining his injuries. Giles will introduce the film and be available afterwards for a Q&A session.
Book now to see Giles on Saturday 15 March 2014, 8pm at Electric Palace Cinema, 39a High Street, Hastings, TN34 3ER. Telephone 01424 720393. Tickets £7/£6. Half of ticket sales will go to Mines Advisory Group.
