‘Two’ by Jim Cartwright at The Stables
Set in a local pub sometime in the 80s, ‘Two’ is a play by Jim Cartwright, the writer of the film, Little Voice. ‘Two’ stars Heather Alexander and Steve Scott – is directed by Dominique Gerrard and performed at The Stables Theatre in Hastings this coming Friday and Saturday (2 and 3 July). A comic-tragic insight into the role the British pub plays as a place offering escape and refuge. Time to head back to our local theatre and enjoy an evening’s entertainment in the real world, folks!
“Warm, tender and often wryly comic” – Guardian
An insight, via a series of vignettes, into life in an English pub owned by a bickering husband and wife team. A wonderfully observed character study of the warring couple and their eccentric customers, seeking sanctuary in the pub, all played by two actors.
‘Two’ won the Manchester Evening news Best New Play award in 1987 and has been performed around the world ever since.
Two actors, Heather Alexander and Steve Scott, swap multiple characters to share stories and trade blows as pints are pulled and relationships revealed in Jim Cartwright’s bittersweet comic drama.
Each vignette skillfully combines pathos and humor. Sharp-talking comedy makes way for bleak urban poetry, followed by dark tragedy.
‘Two’ looks honestly at the joys and stresses of everyday working lives.
Performed by Heather Alexander and Steve Scott
