Toby Belch Is Unwell
First Heard presents Toby Belch is Unwell, a darkly comic monologue from John Knowles featuring Sidney Kean and lots of alcohol, as John explains.
An actor contemplates his legacy: will he always be the stage-bully behind Malvolio’s downfall, stuck in the second strand of the story, the also-ran and the buffoon? Where is his soliloquy?
Toby Belch is Unwell explores the nature of culpability and blame, fame and failure. But this isn’t a lovie whinge-athon, it’s about anyone who has ever held a dream and wondered when – or how – to let go. It’s about coming to terms with who and what you are.
First Heard supports new script writing and this will be a performed reading of the play. The project is always interested in hearing from new script writers of all ages and helping to develop work for the stage
Toby Belch Is Unwell Wednesday 18 January, 7.30pm, at Electric Palace, 39A High Street, Hastings TN34 3ER. Tickets £5, available on the door or
online.
