TENOME: Eyes On Hand
This extraordinary, absorbing new work, TENOME (Eyes on Hand) performed in-the-round, is based on a mythical blind humanoid creature that sees through the palms of its hands. Through intuitive human connection, four exceptional dancers discover a sensual and mysterious exchange of movement heightening their sense of ‘sight’ through touch.
Combining the fluidity of Contact Improvisation with the dynamics and rhythms of Ballroom, EDIFICE Dance Theatre’s latest creation is a unique and unforgettable experience.
“Edifice Dance Theatre’s accomplished choreographers Carmine De Amicis and Harriet Waghorn take us into a mythical smoky underworld of blind creatures, that skilfully uses light to explore each others’ insect, skeletal-like bodies of thrust rib cages and sharp arms, thinly covered in nude cloth and eye-covered head pieces. An absorbing array of scenes with every moment wonderfully filled with intricate pas de deux and quartets to heart beating loud base that kicks off with ear splitting static. The four highly trained dancers further elevated the piece, beautifully melding the anonymous anatomical features with ballroom sequences infused with seamless contact that creates a continuous dialogue between their bodies.” Savannah Saunders
TENOME (Eyes on Hand) is supported by the Arts Council England and is a co-production with EDIFICE Dance Theatre, The Cockpit and St Mary in the Castle.
EDIFICE Dance Theatre was formed in 2015 and is led by Harriet Waghorn and Carmine De Amicis whose practice combines Ballroom and Latin American technique with Contact Improvisation and Contemporary dance.
